I am interested in seeing what people's setups look like running FlexRAID.

* Operating System

* CPU (type, speed, number of cores)

* RAM (Gigs)

* Drives - how many of what size for DRU and Parity, brands

* Ever used FlexRAID to recover data - how did it go, how much, etc.

I will reply as soon as I get mine setup.. still building as of now.

OS: Windows 7 32bit Home Premium

CPU: AMD Phenom™ II X2 (545) dual core

RAM: 4x DDR2 800mhz 1gb modules

Drives: 10 drives total - DRU = 4x 1Tb (2x Hitachi, wx Seagate, 1x WD Green) & 5x 500gb (1x Maxtor, 1x Seagate, 3x WD Green)
1x 1tb WD Green for parity

I did a test when installing it for the first time. Installed, sync a few time, power down, replace one drive, ask to rebuild. Seem to work but haven't tested every file.

I have only used to recover in testing..

I have now rebuilt this server into a "Bigger" case (A thermaltake 14 bay monster)

* Operating System

Windows 7 HP 64-bit. Also using server as the bedroom HTPC by means of HDMI over Cat6 and IR over Cat5e.

* CPU (type, speed, number of cores)

Intel C2D e6600 running stock 2.4Ghz

* RAM (Gigs)

2 x 2GB Crucial PC8500

* Drives - how many of what size for DRU and Parity, brands

6 drives. 1 OS: 36GB (WD Raptor), 3 DRU: 2x 1TB (WD Green and Seagate), 1x 2TB (Hitachi), PPU: 1x 2TB (Hitachi), and 1x 1TB (WD Black) that I use for DVR/Pagefile. I kept the DVR out of the parity because it constantly adds/deletes.

* Ever used FlexRAID to recover data - how did it go, how much, etc.

Haven't tried a test yet.

Using a Norco 4220 case with Foxconn ELA LGA775 MB. Future expansion will be with 2 Supermicro PCIex4 8 SATA by 2 SAS controllers for a total of 22 HD support.

My first parity create for about 2.5 TB of data took about 6 hours. I've successfully been able to run rsynchs and validates while still being able to use the server in its HTPC responsibilities. Show Analyzer also runs at the same time to detect commercials (another reason I keep the DVR off the parity).

Ran my first recover test last week. Moved a 30GB file from the raid and had it rebuild the file without issue. Verify and validate tests both passed.

My setup:

- Windows 2003 R2 32bit running as a VM under VMware ESXi (512MB of RAM and 2 vCPUs)
- 6x 1TB drives for data (passed to the VM as physical RDM [Raw Device Mapping])
- 2TB NAS on which the parity data goes

I have successfully recovered 500GB worth of data.
The recovery was driven more out of convenience (to avoid a downtime on my server) than necessity.

Server (VMware ESXi): dual Quad 8356@2.4Ghz | ASUS KFN5-D SLI | 16GB (4x 4GB) DDR2 667Mhz ECC REG w/Parity [Chipkill] | Radeon X300 | Intel 160GB SSD (VM datastore) | 6+ TB storage
File Server VM (running FlexRAID): 512MB RAM | 2 vCPUs | 6TB storage | Parity on 2TB NAS

My Fileserver:

Headless Ubuntu Server 10.04 with FlexRAID_1.2 and MHDDFS. Folders Shared via SAMBA and AFP.

2 x 1.5 TB
1 x 1.0 TB

Intel 5200 (undervolted and underclocked to 1.2 GHz)
1 x 2 GB RAM

I resync once a week and didn't have to recover so far (a test with a small folder containing some files worked flawlessly)

Brahim,

Windows 2008 R2 is only available as 64bit. How do you have Windows 2008 R2 32bit?

Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise | Intel E6600 | 4GB Ram | ASUS P5W64-WS Pro | 2+ TB Storage

Typo.
I meant 2003 R2 32 bit.

Windows 7 64 bit
Athlon II X2 235e 2.7GHz
2 GB RAM

2x controller AOC-SASLP-MV8. These sped up rsynching enourmously.

11 hard drives of different sizes (7 x 1.5 TB, 4 x 1TB) and brands (Seagate, Samsung, Western Digital).

1 hard drive 2.5", 7200rpm. Encased in a silent enclosure. This makes the server really quiet, as the big hard drives are basically accessed when I'm in a different room (and they are green drives, so pretty quiet anyway).

Case: Antec Twelve Hundred. All fans save for the big 200mm top one (which I keep at the lowest setting) have been substituted with Noctua quiet 120mm fans.

I also use 4 in 3 drive cages. This brings the maximum theoretical limit of hard drives installed at 16. I'm currently at 12 and hope to be able to stay there (I already have the 2TB hard drives as plausible upgrade for the four 1 TB drives) for as long as possible.
