Complete redesign of the WebUI Client

Alright, the current WebUI has to go... now tears over the hours I spent writing it...

The next client will be web based but fully embedded into the host service (no more separate install).
It will be extremely light and will run as a native C DLL within the host service.
For those running multiple FlexRAID hosts, this also means that each host will have to be managed independently.
Managing multiple hosts will come when we get into clustering (combining multiple FlexRAID pools into one bigger pool).

The CMD client is also going way.
So, no more clients per say (and no more config files)... just point your browser to the host and configure away.

Server (VMware ESXi): dual Quad 8356@2.4Ghz | ASUS KFN5-D SLI | 16GB (4x 4GB) DDR2 667Mhz ECC REG w/Parity [Chipkill] | Radeon X300 | Intel 160GB SSD (VM datastore) | 6+ TB storage
File Server VM (running FlexRAID): 512MB RAM | 2 vCPUs | 6TB storage | Parity on 2TB NAS

Sweeeet! Always good to be completely platform independent.

this is like 1000 steps forward...

I don't understand when you plan to make this switch. With next update? Later? Next year?

Three weeks max... as I already started on it.

Would this possibly open up a door for a third-party client written for a specific OS (Windows, as a choice for a lot of people), that could connect to Flex manager and issue commands / receive status and details, manage View, etc? I'd love a small tray app that would run on a schedule, do it's thing without me interacting with it much. As well as saving me from typing out View config, etc.

I'd too love to see the new web UI mockups if it is possible sometimes. Or will we see it when you release the final product?

Yep.
It is fully RESTful and uses JSON for communication. So, third-party clients will be very possible and much more structured.
Teasers will come later.

Great news. Hopefully you'll have a bit of time to document the api so it can be used in developing a native client. Would love to see that. Thanks.

Or any type of client for that matter

I meant Windows based client app. I am not a big fan of Java except in a server environment

Update:

I took the weekend off to let my brain cells re-organized for artistic creativity.
As of now, I have not settled yet on the look and feel of the new UI .

That said, I am playing with a few designs using GWT (http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/).

I like the UI for Freenas. One idea.

Update:

The upcoming client is going GPL v3.
More detail on that later (setting up the project foundations).

GWT and JavaScript developer and Graphic designers will be needed.

Update:

I finally decided on a design and am now building the UI.
I had to build a number of foundations for the embedded environment, which too some extra time.
Anyway, I am hoping to have some UI teaser by the end of the weekend.

Give it another week.
I need to stay in the zone and complete as much of the UI as possible before teasing.

Oooh can't wait.

Is there anything else we can expect in terms of updates to the Core or View?
