FlexRAID Crashes When adding files to Storage Pool  XML

I seem to have figured out how to get FlexRAID installed over 4 volumes (3 DRU 1 PPU) in Real-Time RAID. And I have a Storage Pool setup that mounts and shows the contents of my RAIDed drives.

The problem occurs when I'm trying to add new files to my RAID via the Storage Pool. Every time I add a new file to the storage pool the FlexRAID process quits part of the way through the copy.

I really am not sure what I'm doing wrong, and therefore I don't really know where to start. Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure what system info to give here, It's a Virtual Machine that I'm testing FlexRAID on.

I thought maybe a step by step of what I've done might help.

Ubuntu VM and Installation:
1. Ubuntu VM with 20GB OS drive, and four virtual 5GB "data" drives for testing FlexRAID
2. Fresh install of Ubuntu 11.04 Desktop
3. Software updates to Ubuntu
4. Formatted each data drive as Master Boot Record (GUID also tried)
5. Formatted each volume as EXT4
6. Mounted all four data drives

FlexRAID Installation:
1. Downloaded FlexRAID-2.0-Preview10-Setup.bin
2. Gave execute permissions
3. Ran setup program
4. Switched to installed folder and started FlexRAID

Setup FlexRAID Configuration and Storage Pool:
1. Opened browser to http://localhost:8080
2. Clicked on “Add New Configuration”
3. Gave the configuration a name, "Test"
4. Selected Real-Time RAID
5. Set number of DRUs to 3
6. Clicked "Create"
7. Clicked on the "Test" RAID set
8. Dragged each data drive(folder) to their respective DRU slots.
/media/Bay\ 1 --> DRU1 | /media/Bay\ 2 --> DRU2 | /media/Bay\ 3 --> DRU3 | /media/Bay\ 4 --> PPU1
9. Clicked "Create in the “Command Execution Center”
10. Clicked "Verify"
11. Opened the “Storage Pool Merge Configuration” section
12. Gave the Storage Pool a mount point: /home/redadmin/PoolParty
13. Ensured that mount point existed
14. Clicked "Save" in the “Storage Pool Merge Configuration” section
15. Clicked “Publish/(Re-)Start”
16. Storage Pool successfully mounted at /home/redadmin/PoolParty and displayed on my desktop

Populating with data:
1. Dragged a video file to DRU1 directly. /media/Bay\ 1
2. Video file showed up successfully in PoolParty (Storage Pool), and was able to play in media player
3. Added second video file directly to PoolParty
4. File get part of the way done with copy then reports an error, the detail of which states "Transport endpoint is not connected"
5. When I go back to look at the running FlexRAID program, it has quit with a message saying
SuspendThread failed with error 3 (handle adf44e0, ID 182404320)

JET RUNTIME HAS DETECTED UNRECOVERABLE ERROR #16183 (runtime trap).

That's essentially everything I've done so far. This issue is reproducible every time.

Thanks for your help and insight

You cannot write directly to the source drives in Real-Time RAID.

Try testing without do that operation and see if you still get a crash.

Interesting, thanks for the info Brahim.

I just tried it, and still got the same results. I cleared out the old configuration, changed my data drive mount points to /mnt/Bay{1,2,3,4}, and then did basically the same steps as I listed above (but with out copying to the source drive this time.

Attached are a couple screen shots and a zip of my logs.

Thanks for your help.

I also just tried it with the Snapshot and Storage Pool Confuguration, and got the same result "Transport endpoint is not connected"

Open a bug report on bug.flexraid.com.
I have not been able to replicate the issue yet, but that could be because I am on Ubuntu 32 bit.

I'll file a bug report. What information from this thread do you want there?

I just tried the same process with FlexRAID-2.0-Preview11 on Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit. Same result.

I'm having the same problem with 2.0 preview 12r2 on gentoo x64. (Snapshot Version with a storage pool)

@pheekay
Post your FlexRAID.sys.log file.
Also, are you source drives valid mount points?

Hi there - unfortunately the file is really large (2 Gigs!!!) - it's full of messages like this:

[on_setxattr]: errorMsg=Operation not supported for path=/media/image_93923.jpg

The source drive is mounted normally as /mnt/sde

FS on source + destination is ext4

I should add that i was copying from two source disks simultaneously, when the storage pool disappeared and flexraid crashed.

When i copy only from drive it doesn't seem to occur

I'm seeing the same issue here where copying files to the storage view will crash FlexRAID. Running FlexRAID-2.0-Preview12r2 on Ubuntu 11.04 x64.

I do not see a FlexRAID.sys.log file in the FlexRAID app dir, but have attached the other log files

I didn't see a bug report for this yet. Am I missing it? Otherwise, I can go ahead and create one.

Thanks!

@dreamnid

1. Your config is incorrect (the bold section need a forward slash): unique=/mnt/raw/data1;mnt/raw/data2;/mnt/raw/data3;/mnt/raw/data4
2. Do not edit the ViewConfig.txt file by hand
3. The FlexRAID.sys.log file is in your /tmp folder
4. Please report all bugs to bug.flexraid.com

@Brahim:

1) Thanks. I did see that error message, but couldn't figure out what I was missing
2) Never touched ViewConfig.txt by hand
3) FlexRaid.sys.log is attached in the bug report below.
4) Done - http://bug.flexraid.com/view.php?id=88.

Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks!

Mantis should now be fixed.
Please open a bug report and add the FlexRAID.sys.log file.
