Since I just got the AOC-SAS2LP-MV8 actually 2 of them. Stupid enough that I actually order 2 cables instead of 4 I'm now thinking about buildng a new storage server around it. I'll probably donate the 12bay to temple as it's quite loud. so I'm thinking it should be low power CPU but newer generation. I came with 2 CPU with lower power but decent, both are 65W TDP meaning it should be quiet as well, relativey easy to cool. AMD probably a bit under power compare to the i3, but the GPU would be good enough that I don't have to waste PCI-e slot for extra card. I don't plan on gaming but watching video is a must. There is also a option of going even lower power and get i3-2120t w/32W TDP. I already have an old but good Thermaltake case w/ 9 5.25 external bay which mean I can fit 15 harddrive in there already and a good 700W 80plus PSU which currently hosting a Q6600 CPU. The current MB is Abit AB9 pro. Or should I just swap out the MB and be done with it?
Another thing I do look forward to in newer MB is the UEFI that fully support larger HDD. If anyone w/ differ opinion on UEFI let me know also.
I also have a system with AMD 610e and I very don't want another CPU less powerful than that.
Any suggestion are welcome. Quiet and low power are the key of building new server.

TDP is not always linear in determining power consumption, especially average power consumption.
TDP matters only in cooling restricted environments. So, get the real power consumption figures for each of the CPU in order to make more correct assumptions.

Server (VMware ESXi): dual Quad 8356@2.4Ghz | ASUS KFN5-D SLI | 16GB (4x 4GB) DDR2 667Mhz ECC REG w/Parity [Chipkill] | Radeon X300 | Intel 160GB SSD (VM datastore) | 6+ TB storage
File Server VM (running FlexRAID): 512MB RAM | 2 vCPUs | 6TB storage | Parity on 2TB NAS
