RAPWare, any progress on automatic reconnection?
cg2010, to be able to judge the site I need to look at it. I was on iPad...

Now, I've got nothing against Flash and everything against Apple for their stance on Flash. But there must be some sort of fallback for platform on which Flash is not desireable or working.

I like the look of the website.
Flash only? Come on...
I would avoid having the green X, choose another color... a green X reminds me of Xbox 360.

The good news is you don't have to wait for the run to complete to change the configuration back.
it is indeed good news!

The app. uses TCP/IP to connect to the server once every 5 seconds to check if the status has changed. I can only imagine that breaking the VPN connection somehow interferes with this connection. Are you using the default gateway of your VPN connection? If so, can you try disabling that feature and try it again?

gorman wrote:Is FlexRAID "calling home" somehow?!?

Absolutely not.
I really!!! do not like applications that do that and I have never, nor will ever, write such code.
Unfortunately I'm not sure I can disable the default gateway, but if you implement the reconnection it's no big deal. I will look into it.

And regarding the "calling home" thing, no offense meant, sorry. It's better to ask in cases like this, I'm sure you agree.

Anyway, your work really makes brahim's work shine. Thank you!
Brahim wrote:You will have to parse the logs to extract the count.

Since the client can only return a single value as return code, there is no other way to notify of the extra information than to log it.
If you intend on parsing the logs, make sure to delete it before or after each run to keep it clean.

I have added the option to specify a delete threshold (past which, the update will abort) for the next release.
Really nice idea. To properly understand: in case I need to delete a big amount of files I would just raise this threshold temporarily and run a new rsynch, to then lower it again. Or (better IMHO) would this threshold be on a "per scheduled action" basis?
But I don't get it, why does the program lose the connection to the server when I disconnect from the VPN. Is FlexRAID "calling home" somehow?!?
Well, really satisfied by this. E-mail confirmation is very nice. On rsynch I'd rather have some details on the amount of info synched, rather than a "completed" dry message.

Is it something doable?

Edit: it just lost the connection to the server, claiming the service didn't answer in time. Now, I was fiddling with my VPN, so that might explain it. But I wanted to know if it would have tried connecting again by itself or if it needed manual intervention (which is what I did, pressing connect which fixed it).
One question: am I right in understanding that if this meets my needs I can do without the WebUI (and Tomcat)? This definitely appears to have a lower memory usage than WebUI, considering Tomcat.
Brahim, you mention data rot but, on the other hand, I still don't get whether spork's data was corrupted. Yes or no? He seems happy enough... but I don't understand what he did to solve his issue.

You don't say...
It wasn't a criticism, just an observation.

Peace!

Edit: I installed the client. Will report back in case of problems.
Brahim, is there a suggested buffer size? I have it at 1MB currently.
Brahim wrote:And oh, just because FlexRAID is free does not mean that a good client has to be.
Great if it is, but I am not imposing anything on anyone.
Even if I can't commercialize FlexRAID, it shouldn't mean others should not try to build commercial systems around it (wink to system integrators and custom NAS builders).
Are you really saying "I don't want to but others are welcome to profit from my hard work"? That would be extremely generous but... is this what you mean?

BTW, for system integrators the perpetually expiring versions of FlexRAID place it in a definite "no-go zone".
RAPware, thanks a lot for your effort. Really appreciated. Have a great 2011!
As long as the relevant services are working, there's no need to keep the browser open if that's what you're asking.
Good to know. Thanks for the update.

I wish you a 2011 full of satisfaction for your work and family.

Brahim posted this as a teaser for the new WebUI. I can't help but notice the Real-Time RAID thing going on in the background.

Any news on FlexRAID Live Brahim?
Windows 7 64 bit
Athlon II X2 235e 2.7GHz
2 GB RAM

2x controller AOC-SASLP-MV8. These sped up rsynching enourmously.

11 hard drives of different sizes (7 x 1.5 TB, 4 x 1TB) and brands (Seagate, Samsung, Western Digital).

1 hard drive 2.5", 7200rpm. Encased in a silent enclosure. This makes the server really quiet, as the big hard drives are basically accessed when I'm in a different room (and they are green drives, so pretty quiet anyway).

Case: Antec Twelve Hundred. All fans save for the big 200mm top one (which I keep at the lowest setting) have been substituted with Noctua quiet 120mm fans.

I also use 4 in 3 drive cages. This brings the maximum theoretical limit of hard drives installed at 16. I'm currently at 12 and hope to be able to stay there (I already have the 2TB hard drives as plausible upgrade for the four 1 TB drives) for as long as possible.

Again, that's likely because the step 6 and 7 were not followed properly.
It might well be, but I did it twice, just to be sure. Maybe I did it wrong twice. I can't exclude that.
