Thanks Brahim,
As you can see I am not the author, but posted the well written guide by Ben Wagner in hopes of being able to demystify the installation process. I've noticed people posting on other forums with difficulties in this area. Ben's guide is extremely helpful. Additionally, the guide was aimed at setting up a media server, and that is my area of pursuit.

Someone had to do it ( and Brahim might be a bit busy )

http://www.benwagner.net/ , I posted this to show other people are beginning to spread the knowledge of the Flexraid installation.
There has been speculation on other forums concerning the future of Flexraid. One instance envisioned a a private jet being dispatched for Brahim in the very near future. Others, simply speculated a retro engineered copy.
If the former, please, Brahim, ask to be paid in Oracle stock.
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1546329 , just in case anyone is contemplating a large build, this may prove useful.
On another forum a member had a question, not about flexraid, but about Raidz2. Anyway, he had doubts concerning z2 meeting his needs, he wanted to be able to stream HD- both movies and TV recordings to 4 devices while recording two shows. His concern was simultaneous reads and writes posing problems. I wanted to ask if, in real world experience, can flexraid handle this media server need?
nls,
actually this was for Brahim's perusal. Your input, is ... nevermind.
http://www.vilett.com/disParity/forum/topic.php?id=57 , although not for flex, this does show an attempt to create a gui for similar purposes. I thought it was worth showing.

Actually, the disabling of the services for WHS is what is sought by many people looking for a WHS/FlexRAID media server. Those services, with their impact on I/O, destabilize sequential streams. Plus, with a WHS/Flex server, you can have much less of what people don't like about WHS, and that is all of those things going on behind the scenes with no control. The drive pool is great for backups, but that is not the use everyone wants.

Ben
Just an update, on the avs forum, under the htpc section, is a media server thread, now going at 149 pages. Flexraid has been mentioned heavily in the last three pages, and throughout. They do have some questions - most about WHS and flexraid.

One was, can you " turn off " the duplication services and use flexraid safely ( thereby taming the demigrator issues so often seen in WHS )

The other concerned streaming to multiple devices at one time, can flexraid maintain sequential streams if they are coming off of one hard drive ?

There may be alot of variables, but I thought it worth mentioning what folks were asking.

I have to agree with NLS, can't imagine the difficulty in bringing all of this together, but a " for dummies " install and use guide would really help. Video guides would also.

Ben
Oh, and the mediasmart server forum and the WHS section of Australian Media Center forum, and smallnetbuilder forum.

Ben

While I will donate, I put a link in wegotserved ( WHS forum ) as a form of donation. I would imagine your websites hits may reflect more very interested guests.
