Warning this forum will shutdown in a few hours...

Time to move to the new forum.
Tjalve wrote:What logs do you want? I deleted the log.log file in order to make flexraid create a new one. Windows Event viewer doesnt say anything other then what i posted.

No. Im sure that the program closes the call to the file. And as i sid. I have tried to delete the entire log file, but nothing.

Which version?
Make sure you are not running a version that has expired.
1. Run the Pre-Uninstall.bat file that's in the installation directory
2. Reboot
3. Start the storage pool
It does.
However, not all of the free parity space is returned to the filesystem for efficiency sake.
As your largest DRU grows back, you will see that the parity space won't grow until past a point.
Are you sure you setup everything for delegation to work properly?

Old topics will be accessible through this sub-forum: http://forum.flexraid.com/index.php/board,12.0.html
The one thing I wish I could do is tie the new forum search to the old forum's content.
TDP is not always linear in determining power consumption, especially average power consumption.
TDP matters only in cooling restricted environments. So, get the real power consumption figures for each of the CPU in order to make more correct assumptions.
Time to start migrating to the new forum

Alright guys, it is time to start migrating to the new forum: http://forum.flexraid.com

I have setup and OpenID provider site to provide Single Sign-On functionality across the FlexRAID related sites: http://www.openegg.org/openid
The new forum already supports OpenID and I am going to work to have the bug and wiki sites to support it to over the weekend.
Of course, you can also use your existing OpenID from other providers if you have one setup.

This forum is officially closed! Please visit http://forum.flexraid.com for the new forum.
nsainfreek wrote:Which install directory do you mean? The install file is just one file. The directory in "Program Files" does not have a Pre-Uninstall.bat file since I deleted the original directory. Anyway you could forward me that file?

Oh, you have the "FlexRAID Host Service" too?
Clearly, you just deleted the program folder instead of uninstalling it.

1. Stop all services
2. In a DOS prompt run: sc delete "FlexRAID Host Service"
3. Install the newest version of FlexRAID, but uncheck the option to start the service automatically.
4. Go to the install directory and run the Pre-Uninstall.bat file
Run the Pre-Uninstall.bat file you find in the install directory.
bfg100k wrote:I am having the same issue too. I saw on an older forum post that this was due to the LANG (or LANGUAGE) env setting not set correctly in the start up script. I have since added it but the problem still exists... forgot to mention that I'm running it on Ubuntu 11.04 with ext4 volumes.

Try running the update task twice and and give me the logs.
I want to see if the second update picks up changes after the first update.
webs0r wrote:No, do it manually first.

If you want the automerge storage pool to work, yes, set up identical folder structures.

(but why spread the data out anyway - to what end?)

Actually, he does not need to setup an identical folder structure for the auto-merge.
@micomateh
For very active configurations, you want the Real-Time RAID feature, which is still in alpha for the time being.
However, with the re-implementation of the storage pool feature, I am confident that it will get very stable in the next few weeks.
So, stay tuned.
Ken4000 wrote:I have just bought WHS 2011 and not installed it yet.
1: But if I download FlexRAID now, do I then have this problem:
"I can change the filesystem type to NTFS. However, this doesn't trick Windows Media Center into seeing the storage pool as an NTFS volume. It still says I can't use the storage pool because it's not formatted as NTFS. I wonder if WHS users will have the same issue."
(Found here: http://www.openegg.org/forums/posts/list/20/966.page).

2: What version of FlexRAID shall I download to get the addin? ...is that FlexRAID View??

I'm a little confused and hope someone can help me with my first steps with FlexRAID

Try reading the wiki articles first: http://wiki.flexraid.com

The add-in for WHSv2 is not yet ready.
That said, the next release won't really need an add-in as WHSv2 will see the FlexRAID drive as a standard drive (natural integration).
See this thread: http://www.openegg.org/forums/posts/list/972.page

Maybe. Although the OS itself does quite a good job with this (call me MFT).

No, that's not what the OS does.
The OS caches the last accessed information. The MFT is the repository.

1. The Real-Time feature uses a lightweight version of what MFT is.
2. Creating a global MFT for the purpose of caching is just not practical.
3. Worst, Windows Explorer will still need to read the actual file data for things like thumbnails and whatnots. There are ways around that, but we will talk about it later.

Ultimately, a write-through metadata cache will be very tricky to implement as any bug will automatically lead to data corruption.
Great points have been made.

I have a few ideas about how to implement this, but each has its limitations.

1. An in-memory cache layer will require a lot of RAM for users with a lot of files.
2. Going to disk for the cache will slow things down to a crawl.
3. How about an index database that can be browsed outside of the primary pool? Like a secondary virtual drive just to offline browse the metadata of the main storage pool?
4. How about just relying on a 3rd party tool to just print the storage pool directories and files?
NLS wrote:Any news on this front?

Well, I have decided to go with OpenID.
I just finished setting up my own provider site for more trust: http://www.openegg.org/openid

Once user register for an OpenID, registration to every FlexRAID site will be painless.
Moreover, an OpenID from openegg.org can be used in other sites.

SMF already supports OpenID and WordPress has a plugin for it.
The only thing left is Mantis, but hopefully, support will come sooner than later.
Add a feature request to bug.flexraid.com
eric_launier wrote:When restoring one PPU in T2, T2+ or Tx, flxr.meta file is missing. I need to copy from another PPU or recreate parity

This is fixed for the next release.
For now, you need to edit the metadata path property in the UI to point to the surviving copy.

It was a failure on my enclosures part, I have a 4 bay enclosure and it seems the top bay has died (I think it isn't powering all drives)
I can still check the memory usage if you'd like?

Yeah, please do.

This tells me that something happened (like an exception) which caused the resources to not be properly closed.
Can you look into your logs for when this started? (the first task that reported the leak)
